Project name: FIND YOUR OWN PATH
Duration: 1 June 2023 – 31 December 2025
Financial support: CZK 100,000 in total (private donor)
A funded study placement for students and future teachers who would like their teaching practice to be part of something changing, and to try out, with no strings attached, what it is like to teach in an “alternative school”.
The placement runs one day a week for three months and includes the participant’s own active preparation, a day spent with the children, our methodological support and mentoring; it can also count towards compulsory teaching practice and carries a financial reward. Its further aims are to broaden the range of experience available during teacher training, to build new contacts and to reach potential candidates who may in future swell the ranks of innovative teachers.
Delivered by: ZŠ LABYRINT LHOTA s.r.o. in cooperation with the Kapradí association
We have been on the road towards education that makes sense since 2016. At the Labyrint Lhota Montessori school we work with children from Year 1 to Year 9. More important to us than knowledge is seeking out and finding the social and practical connections and ways of working which, together with critical thinking and discussion, we see as central to children’s development – so that they learn to weigh up information in life, decide for themselves and take responsibility for their decisions.
We help build the school as a safe zone for developing every child’s talent and meeting their needs and interests. Openness in communication, a capacity of 100 children, first-name terms all round, respectful relationships among guides, children and parents, and also the closeness of the forest and the time children spend outdoors – all of this adds to the good atmosphere of our school in a small village on the railway line between Opava and Ostrava.
We place great weight on our guides being mature people, not only in their teaching but as human beings – open, creative, curious, patient, active, responsible and flexible. People with a developed moral sense and healthy self-confidence. And those are exactly the people we are looking for in this project!
