Smart irrigation in school conditions

Smart irrigation in school conditions

On our school plot in Zlatníky near Opava we manage rainwater efficiently. We turned our experience into the guide Smart Irrigation, which inspires schools and the public alike. Working with mapping specialists, we produced interactive quest worksheets for discovering local nature. The project brings together ecology, learning and active community involvement.

Grant provider: City of Opava

Grant awarded: CZK 40,000

Duration: 1 January 2024 – 31 December 2024

The aim of the project was to find and test effective ways of growing plants and managing rainwater on our school plot in Zlatníky near Opava. We turned what we learned into a practical guide, Smart irrigation in school conditions, which we share with other schools and with the wider public, so that it can inspire sustainable care of gardens and plots.

The project also involved working with specialists – an ornithologist, a cartographer and a botanist – to map the forest path from the Zlatníky střed bus stop to our school plot. The data gathered produced two interactive worksheets in the form of a quest, which draw the public into discovering the local forest and encourage interest in protecting and learning about it. The project brings together practical ecological learning, work with specialists and active discovery of nature right in the local community.
