Our Keprníci joined the year-long School for Sustainable Living programme, which we run in partnership with the SEVER Environmental Education Centre in Horní Maršov.

During the project the pupils got to know Lhota in real depth – from the point of view of local people, of nature, of how the village is developing, of its economy and of everyday life. They learned to see the place where they live in context and to look for meaningful ways to improve it.

Working with the local council and community was a natural part of the project. It meant pupils could turn their ideas into concrete action. They helped tidy the area around the Lhota spring, made larch benches, organised a day for older residents at our school and joined in cleaning up part of the village.

The programme leads pupils towards active, responsible citizenship. It teaches them to think about ecological, social and economic connections – exactly in the spirit of what matters to us at Labyrint.

The project also brought many opportunities to present their own ideas, to debate, to vote and to talk with representatives of the village. Pupils took part in a student conference in Prague and gained experience that goes well beyond ordinary lessons.

Working through it step by step led them to carry their projects out successfully – and above all to the feeling that their work has a real effect.

We are delighted to be continuing with the project in the coming school year. New challenges await us, this time in the area of the local climate.
