Insect Circle of Life

The project joins environmental education with practical experience. Pupils do not learn only in theory – they become part of a real story of caring for nature and its balance.

Through the project we will buy complete beekeeping equipment, including protective gear for pupils. The school garden will also gain new beds and features for planting nectar-bearing plants, creating a natural habitat for pollinators and supporting biodiversity.

Pupils in Years 7 to 9 will take an active part in keeping bees – they will learn to care for a colony, understand how it works and gradually go through a whole beekeeping year, right up to the chance of harvesting their own honey. Because the work is cyclical, they can return to it each year and deepen their experience.

Younger pupils (Years 1 to 6) will focus on work in the school garden. They will prepare the beds, sow seeds and create a varied strip of nectar-bearing plants. They will then observe and study the life of insect pollinators in the field.

The project naturally builds cooperation, responsibility and the ability to learn from one another across year groups. Older pupils pass their experience to younger ones, and together they build an environment that makes sense.

The Insect Circle of Life supports ecological thinking, sustainability and a lasting relationship with nature. It is also becoming a firm part of project-based learning within the school’s adolescent programme.
